Air Filter Replacement
The air filter is a very important component of your vehicle’s engine. Your car’s engine requires a precise mixture of air and fuel in order to run properly, but the air needs to be clean and free of debris. If debris and dirt is allowed to enter the engine, it can cause major problems which are extremely difficult and expensive to fix. Fortunately, your vehicle comes equipped with an air filter, which keeps dirt and debris from entering the engine.
Over time, your air filter will become dirty and full of debris. The dirtier it gets, the harder it is for air to get through. If there isn’t enough air coming through the filter it can lead to your engine running too “rich”; meaning there’s too much fuel in the air-fuel mixture.
Replacing your air filter should be done at regular intervals, depending on your vehicle’s manufacturer recommendations. Some recommendations state every 60,000 miles, while others are as few as 24,000 miles. We recommend that you have your air filter inspected whenever you have your oil changed, between 3,000 and 6,000 miles. Regardless of manufacturer recommendations, if your air filter is dirty and restricting air-flow, it needs to be replaced. Our expert mechanics in Gladstone can take a look at your air filter and give you a good idea of when it should be replaced.
